Thank you for supporting our vision for collaborative governance!

We’d love to have you spread the word about our coalition, so if you’re inclined, here is an introduction to our coalition that you could copy and paste into a social media post or an email to your friends.

Introduction to the Coalition for Collaborative Governance

The Coalition for Collaborative Governance is a group of Lawrence community members advocating for governance that empowers all stakeholders—residents, community organizations and businesses, and local government—to shape local governments’ policies, budgets, and outcomes.

If you're interested in our vision and advocacy efforts, please read more about us on our website and consider signing up for our email list.

The City of Lawrence's first commitment in its Strategic Plan is to collaboratively engage with our community, but only 38% of residents surveyed by the City are "satisfied with the level of public involvement in local decision-making."

Our coalition advocates have observed that local governmental decisions tend to be driven by City management and consultants, rather than by collaboration between residents, City management, and elected officials. In these decision-making processes, residents often experience

  • limited informational transparency,

  • non-responsive community engagement, and/or

  • inadequate accountability from the City of Lawrence.

We advocate for the City of Lawrence to fully align its culture, policies, and practices with its Strategic Plan and become more transparent, collaborative, and accountable in its relationship with its community members. We believe these practices lead to optimal outcomes that reflect the opinions and needs of community members and balances them with government staff expertise.
